Create new rhythms in your weeknight dinner process
LOOK
Do you want to make weeknight dinners stress-free, nutritious and have quality family time around the dinner table?
We start our meal planning process with a "LOOK and PLAN" day on Sundays. We make a cup of coffee, grab our diaries and our Eet Recipe Boxes.
In both our homes our kids are often part of the process. We find that involving them in the meal planning makes them more likely to try new dishes.
It sounds like effort but planning your dinners sets the stage for quality family time and happy food memories.
PLAN
This is how we do it:
- Choose 4 recipe cards for each weeknight dinner (Monday - Thursday).
- Bring variety into our weekly menu: 1 x Vegetarian, 1 x Red Meat, 1 x Poultry & 1 x Fish. We teach our kids to do the same when it is their turn to choose.
- Eet Recipes are complete meals (sides included), loaded with fresh vegetables and fruit.
- We take into account our schedules for the week. Choose easy, quick recipes for hard days, or do some prepping the day before.
- We try to limit food waste and use what we buy. The Seasonal Eet Recipe Pack includes a card with weekly recipe suggestions. If you follow this plan you will use up all the fresh ingredients you buy.
Give it a try, planning might be easier than you think. No more last-minute “What’s for dinner stress” during your week!
SHOP
Shopping from your Eet Recipe Cards can be done easily online or in the store. The ingredients are widely available at most South African supermarkets.
The ingredients list is organised according to shop layout (e.g. fresh, dairy, meat and pantry) to make shopping easier.
Quickly check what ingredients you already have in your pantry, fridge and freezer and only buy what you need.
We like to stock up on pantry staples. Included in each Eet Seasonal Recipe Pack is a pantry and fresh seasonal herb list for the specific season. Plant the herbs in your garden or keep them in pots on your kitchen window sill - they last surprisingly well and it’s a much cheaper option than buying fresh herbs for every dinner.
Place the 4 recipe cards you will use in the front of your recipe box under “This Week”.
Now you know exactly what you will cook and have all the ingredients you need - all prepared for the week!
COOK
Place your recipe card in the slot on your Eet Recipe Box.
Take out all the ingredients you are going to use.
Flip the recipe card over to the method side. You will see that all the ingredient quantities are repeated in brackets on the method side so that you don’t have to page back and forth.
If you have kids hanging around in the kitchen put them to work and make them part of the cooking process.
We are passionate about family dinners around the table. When dinner is ready, relax, sit back and breathe.
Family dinners are firstly about connection and secondly about nutritious food that tastes good.
